We had Zap's family and our close friends we consider family over for Thanksgiving. I think the tally came to around 30..That's sad that we can't remember the tally, but there were a LOT of people here. It was wonderful to say the least. I think it was incredibly special to be able to host it and to "break the house in". It was one of the best holidays that I've ever had.
The day before Thanksgiving, Zap had taken Delaney and Edgar for an early morning walk. I decided to take a pregnancy test while they were here, but I didn't go back to look at it for a while. I went back to check it and there were two lines. I was COMPLETELY shocked. We were kind of "casually" trying. With Delaney, we had to time cycles, use a fertility monitor, etc. and this time we just got to have fun. But so by the time I went to look at it, Zap was gone. I called my friend Korie because the news was bursting inside of me. But I knew I couldn't tell Zap over the phone. I did keep calling him to see when he was going to be home though.
I decided I'd tell him by making a onesie for Delaney that read "I'm going to be a BIG SISTER ! (Aug. 09)". So he comes home, and he had planned to take Delaney on errands. I kept telling him that he needed to get her dressed and that I had clothes laid out for her. He lays her down to dress her and pulls out the onesie. He looks at it and says "oh. this is cute. I've never seen this one before". I'm like "really??". Then he reads it, but I think it took about 1/2 a minute for it to sink in. Then he looks at me and says "Are you serious??" with the sweetest look on his face.
We were able to tell his family while we were doing our "thankfuls" before Thanksgiving dinner. I went first and Zap went last. We went around the room and people let others know what they were thankful for. It gets to Zap and he says that he's thankful for us, thankful for our home, for Delaney, and for family being here for Thanksgiving. Then he says "and I'm thankful that Delaney is going to be a big sister this time next year" and the room ERUPTS!!!! Everybody was so excited. The room was so loud that it scared Delaney and people were trying to hug me and she was crying. However, we calmed down and were able to share an amazing meal. I would love if we could have the same huge Thanksgiving next year with a few more people (new baby, my family). It was one of the best Thanksgivings that I can remember.

colds, crafts, and turkey
So Delaney has a cold. I tried to pretend it was just her teeth, but she has a cough and now Zap has a cold. I'm really hoping that no babies that came to playgroup got sick. Most of them were breastfed and Delaney never had a cold while she was nursed, so I hope that helps.
We ran a lot of errands this weekend and we to the Oly High School "Bearzar" to see crafts. Delaney tried on hats and modeled for people. She was feeling really flirty. She's going to be trouble when she discovers boys ...
We ran into our friend Christa who is Murphy's mom from babygym. I always laugh my rear off around her. Her little man Murphy is adorable. Christa is pretty crafty herself and I'm hoping she can help me learn to sew a little better.
We are in the process of thawing our turkeys. We figure we'll have about 30 people here on Thursday. I'm overwhelmed and excited. It's all Zap's family coming in, so I'm going to have to bring some "Hardee" family recipes out -we are having candied yams, no matter what Zap says.
I think I'm also going to do my mashed potatos. I'm completely craving a huge turkey feast. And then the leftovers for days!!!!
What are some of your family's Thanksgiving traditions? We like to go around and tell the family what we're thankful for. This year I have so much to be thankful. A funny, healthy, beautiful, smart (I could go on and on) daughter and a husband who is a true partner.
Well, Happy Thanksgiving to you and yours. I'll be sure to post pictures !

what's new here..
Well, not much. Delaney is cutting her second tooth. This one came with a little heavier runny nose than the last one did. Also, here's an interesting fact. This tooth is coming up faster..maybe the two are related, or maybe they just come up faster as they progress, but I do find it a little odd.
We're enjoying the fall weather that has finally come our way. I have some mini daffodils in big pots on the front porch and they're actually budding. They're not the brightest plants. They don't realize that after the first big frost, they're gone. But they will be pretty if they make it out before that.
We're getting ready for Thanksgiving. We're hosting here and I'm really excited (if completely overwhelmed). We're having a large number of people from Zap's family here. Some of whom I haven't seen since the wedding or ever, so a lot of new relatives for Delaney to meet. We'll have to take a ton of pictures.
Edgar is doing okay. He's been going to doggy daycare a few days a week and he loves it, but he's starting to become a "barker". He barks at other dogs when he plays and he's been barking at men recently. So, he's going to get enrolled into some new training (a round for him then a round for him and us together). The lady at the daycare today said that barking and being vocal is the first step on the way to aggression, so we need to nip it in the bud.
I had baby playgroup at my house today for my meetup.com moms group. We had a great time and I think we had about six or seven moms and babies here. The playroom was packed. Delaney actually went and took a nap for about fifteen minutes, so I got to hold our sweet friend Nora, who's about three months old. I'd forgotten what holding a small baby feels like.
BUT, I better get used to it. Zap and I are officially trying for baby number 2!!! If we get pregnant quickly, they'll be about eighteen months apart.
So that's it..I'm off to see what we're going to eat for dinner tonight! Happy Friday!

at 8 months..
Yesterday was Delaney's eight month birthday and I think that both Zap and I are feeling bittersweet about how quickly she is growing. In the past two days, she' started taking about five steps with her little "lawnmower" walker. She's been crawling for a few weeks now and it just seems that all of this is happening so fast. It is really exciting to watch her change and grow and learn new things. I love seeing her personality appear and start maybe having an idea of who she is going to be.
But it's hard thinking about that little baby who loved nursing and snuggling with mommy - she still likes to snuggle when she's tired-as a walker.

yay for Friday...sorta..
Well, today was Friday and usually I dread Friday. I work at my middle school on Fridays and I just have too many kids to see, not enough time, and I feel really ineffective. I spend a lot of my day running around from class to class to find and get kids. By then, their 1/2 hour of therapy is half over.
So I sat down and plotted out my day, where the kids "should" be, and today was actually pretty effective. It felt really nice.
Also, lately at my elementary school, I've been getting "stalked" by fourth and fifth grade boys who are DESPERATE to come to speech. They'll stop me in the hall: "Do I come and see you at 12:45???"...it's not about actually seeing me, or working on their sounds, or any of that good stuff. They come for the Pokemon cards that are in the treasure box. But..they come and they work, so any means necessary, right?
Today was a good day with Delaney. Her grandma Joyce watched her while I was at work. No crying when I left today which made it much easier to leave the house. Once I got home, we packed up and headed to playgroup with my local meetup.com moms group. We had a really nice time, like we do every week. Next week, we're hosting at our home, so we think we'll be there on time :) Delaney had fun kissing all her little boyfriends and showing them how she eats her snacks.
Then we got home, she stayed asleep from her carseat to her crib - a highly unusual occurrence- and she's still napping now. We got tons of packages in the mail, all very exciting. Edgar's new sweater and new collars (one's for Christmas) came in the mail. Also, an early Christmas gift I ordered for Zap came in today and a hat that my grandmother croceted for Delaney. The hat is really cute, but I think the fact that it fits me may mean that we'll have to see if she can go smaller. OR just keep it for her to wear later.
We're having Zap's parents over tonight with our nephew Lance, just to hang out and spend time where Joyce isn't "working" while she's here. Should be fun.

busy, but typical day
Today was pretty busy. When we woke up, Edgar was ready to go for a walk. So we got suited up, despite the rain, and headed out. I was pretty proud of myself that I was able to walk the whole circuit at the park while carrying that backpack. I used the rain shield for the first time and it did a great job of keeping the wind and rain out of Delaney's face. Edgar had a great time as usual, running around chasing his ball and doing his business.
Once we got home, we got dressed and packed up to go to baby gym. We go twice a week and we really love it. We sing songs, talk to other moms, and let the babies crawl around. For some reason today, all the moms were chatty and I found myself doubled over with laughter more than one time.
We also made a stop at our favorite pet store and picked Edgar up some new bones. He seems very happy with the pressed rawhide circle I brought home.
Once we got home, Delaney was in no mood for a nap (she dozed in the car and as far as she was concerned, that was all the nap she needed) so we played bubbles, ate a little lunch, watched a few minutes of t.v. together, and just generally played.
Delaney decided to take a nap about two hours later (just before Daddy got home to help) and now, about 1/2 an hour later, she's waking up.
Tonight, I'm getting my eyes checked - since having Delaney they haven't been great. I have a hard time driving at night and just reading in general is getting harder.
off to pick up my baby that didn't sleep enough.

it's been too long
It's been too long since I posted an entry..in that time, we closed and moved into our new home, I started work part-time, we took a family trip to Memphis, had our first Halloween, and Delaney learned to crawl, pull herself up and (just today) stand independently for about two seconds. She also cut her first tooth.
I'll review chronologically (as much as I can remember).
So we closed on our home in late September and we love it. We really love the neighborhood. It's really really quiet. We were renting a home in a much more dense neighborhood and while we loved the people, we loving the space and the quiet. Our home is about the size home we had in Vegas - but much bigger than our rental town home. We have four bedrooms and an office. Delaney's room is done in ladybugs and she's down the hallway from us. We have two floors and the office that has become a play room in on the first floor right by the entry. I think that if we didn't have Delaney and moved into a new home, it would be much more decorated. I'm having a hard time finding time to do much decorating. But..slowly but surely.
I started working part time for the local school district here and I really enjoy it. My only complaint is that I have too many kids to see (for those of you who don't know, I'm a speech therapist working in public schools) and not enough time to see them. Tuesdays, Thursdays, and Friday mornings, I'm pretty much in therapy from the time that kids get to school to when they leave.
We got our first dog, Edgar about a month ago. He is a 35 pound standard Poodle terrier mix and he's about eleven months old. He is a very good dog. He's very trainable and sweet. He loves to play. We have to take him to the dog park twice a day on days he doesn't go to doggy day care (where he runs ALL day long). The cats are not so sure about him, but I think the house is big enough for all the personalities.
Trip to Memphis: We went to Memphis for five or six days recently. We went to see my grandparents on both my mom's and dad's side. We stayed with my Mammaw and Pappaw for a few days and took a day trip down to Alabama to see Pop and Jane. All the grandparents except for Mammaw had yet to meet Delaney, so it was very special. My dad and his wife also had not met Delaney yet.
Overall, we had a great time. But. I learned that I really don't miss Memphis. After being here in Olympia for two years, I'm not used to voiced prejudice and racism. This was also just before the election, so the subject of race was fairly out there. But I just felt weighed down by the feelings of others. Zap even noticed it and was uncomfortable. I will always love Memphis and enjoy going home for visits, but I love that we live here.
Things Delaney has learned: crawling (Nov. 4th -towards the TV which was on while she was awake-fairly unusual occurance - six and a half months) pulling up on stuff (I think the first week in November - before the acutal crawling) standing up on her own (today, Nov. 11th, for just about two seconds). Oh. She's also learned to sign "more" back to us.
Really, knowing how quickly they grow and learn new things I'm sure there's more she's learned. She's so much fun to watch. Every day is a little more fun.
Right now, Zap and I are trying to figure out what works best for our family in terms of how close to have our kids.
We're working on Delaney sleeping through the night. We're not sure if we want to do "sleep training" yet, but I think we're getting there.
We're also getting excited for Thanksgiving. We're hosting this year, so we'll have about 30 people over at our house. It's already a madhouse so I'm sure it will be a circus :)
I hope you're all caught up. I promise I'll be a better blogger.
